A double chin can be due to fatty deposit. Liposuction is a relatively safe and simple method to remove unwanted fat cells. A metal cannula is placed through a small skin incision and attached to a suction machine. Fat is commonly removed from the neck through small incisions beneath the chin and/or in a crease around the ear. The other cause of double chin is neck laxity and is treated by neck lift or face lift. A small chin can cause an illusion of a double chin and is corrected with chin augmentation or chin implant.
Liposuction can be performed as an individual procedure or in conjunction with another procedure such as a facelift, Neck lift, chin augmentation or chin implant. Once the excess fat is removed, the overlying skin will reform to its new contour. Younger skin has more elasticity and will contract more rapidly and smoothly than older skin. An elastic bandage will usually be worn for a few days after surgery and then at night for several weeks. Any bruising or discoloration will usually disappear in approximately two weeks, but the swelling can last considerably longer.
