More Information on Breast Lifts and Implants

Before & After Considerations for Your Breast Lift & Implant Surgery

Breast implants with breast lift (mastopexy) can greatly assist in improving self-confidence and self-image. The procedures can reshape the sagging breasts, increase size or improve shape, improve contour, volume, firmness and symmetry while rebalancing your figure to create a more proportionate look.

These procedures are performed in healthy adult women of any age but Dr Pham recommends patients should wait until after completion of child birth or breast feeding.

The main indications for breast lifts are:

  • To improve sagging of the breasts, particularly after pregnancy or after significant weight loss. Breasts become very droopy and the nipples may drop below the desired position and the areolas may be too large.
  • To improve the loss of firmness due to loss of too much breast tissue giving the breasts a "rock in a sock" appearance.

  • To increase the volume of the breasts by combining the procedure with breast implants (augmentation mastopexy).
  • To return volume to the breasts.
  • To give the breasts a more conical shape.

Receiving breast implants or a breast lift from a professional and skilled surgeon in Perth ensures that the final result is natural and aesthetically pleasing. It also ensures that surgical and post-operative risks are minimised.

Breast Implant Costs and Prices

A full outline of breast implant costs and prices will be provided as part of the initial consultation process. Each procedure is unique to the patient, and will depend on whether you are also having a breast lift procedure, and therefore breast implant costs and prices will vary.

The fees for breast lift with implant are approximately:

  • Surgical: $8000-9000
  • Anaesthetist: $1500-2200
  • Hospital: $3500-4500
  • Implant: $1800-2000.

The quote of all costs you can expect to be charged is usually an estimate as the surgery may differ from proposed treatment in the event of an unexpected finding.

Before Your Surgery

Once you have decided that implants or a breast lift are suitable for you, Dr Pham will conduct a thorough assessment at his Perth clinic, to evaluate whether you are a suitable candidate. Considerations include:

  • The bust size and shape you desire
  • Current concerns about your breasts
  • Detailed medical history
  • Family planning details
  • Expectations

A thorough examination of your chest and underarm area will be performed and photographs will be taken for medical records. At this stage, if you currently have some sagging, you may also be recommended for a breast lift/mastopexy.

Sizes

Breast implant sizes to suit you will depend on the look you want to achieve and factors such as height and body shape. The recommended size is best determined in consultation with your surgeon.

Sizes are measured in cubic centimetres (or cc). The larger the implant, the higher the volume cc will be and sizes do not correspond to traditional bra cup sizes. Choosing the right size is one of the most important decisions to make.

Dr Pham will evaluate your existing tissue to determine if you have enough to accommodate the desired size.

If your chosen size is too big for the amount of tissue you have, edges may be visible through your skin or the implant may be more easily felt after your operation. You also may increase the risk of having surgical complications.

The Operation

The implants used by Dr Pham have an outer silicone shell and are either filled with silicone gel (the most common type) or saline.

During surgery, the implants are inserted either over the muscle or between the tissue and the muscle. The option you choose will depend on your desired outcome.

Over muscle

  • Fuller, more prominent bust
  • Faster recovery
  • Less pain

Under muscle

  • More natural appearance
  • Well-suited to smaller frames
  • Less chance of later sagging

The inserts can be placed through one of three methods:

  • Into an incision in the armpit
  • Around the areola
  • Under the crease

The incisions made and healing sutures placed during surgery generally leave minimal scarring.

Patients will normally receive a general anaesthetic for the procedure, which takes around one and a half hours. The operation is generally performed in a hospital.

Post-Op and Recovery

You may choose to go home after your surgery later in the day or stay at the hospital overnight. During this first 24 hours you are likely to experience some swelling, bruising, tightness and pain. Dr Pham will prescribe pain relief medications, to be used as directed.

For two weeks after the operation, you will need to wear a bra 24 hours a day, except when bathing. During the first five days after the operation, you will need to keep sutures and dressings dry. After five to seven days you will need to attend a follow-up appointment at our Perth clinic to allow us to assess your progress.

Post-Op Life

Most recipients resume work within one week (or earlier) of the procedure, but you may prefer to wait longer. You will be able to resume activities such as exercise, hot saunas, spas and showers after approximately four weeks.

It may take up to 6–12 months after surgery for the final, true results of your surgery to become apparent. At this point you should schedule a follow-up appointment for a final assessment and discussion.

FEES AND INSURANCE

After conducting a thorough medical history, Dr Pham and his staff will offer information regarding anaesthesia, the surgical facility to be used, and the costs for the procedure. Every procedure is individual and unique to each patient. Because of this, determining your specific needs and the fees associated relies on a variety of factors, such as the complexity of the operation, where the surgery will take place and the type of anaesthetic to be administered.

YOUR QUOTE

A quote will be provided and is usually an estimate as the actual surgery may differ from the proposed treatment due to unexpected findings. Dr Pham will never compromise your health or surgical outcome to conform to previously anticipated or communicated anaesthesia and facility time. If further treatment is required (through complexity, unforeseen complications or additional procedures you request) then extra costs may apply.

TOTAL FEE

The total fee will comprise of

  • Surgeon Fee (Dr Pham) – this will be provided in the quote
  • Anaesthetist Fee – you will need to consult the Doctor / Anaesthetist involve for a quote
  • Hospital or Day Surgery Fee – you will need to contact the hospital involve for a quote

CONSULTATION FEE

The fee for an initial consultation with Dr Pham is $220. To be eligible for any Medicare rebates, you will need to have a valid referral from your general practitioner. Any follow-up consultations will incur a fee of $130.

Your first cosmetic consultation is complimentary with a Nurse Coordinator.

Fees for cosmetic plastic surgery are paid prior to surgery.

DEPOSITS

A non-refundable deposit of 10% or $500 is required once surgery has been scheduled. This deposit reserves the surgery date and is credited towards the balance due.

The balance of fees due is to be paid in full at the pre-operative appointment or three weeks prior to the scheduled surgery, whichever is first. Perth Facial Plastic & Cosmetic Surgery generally does not provide refunds. Once a procedure is scheduled and the fee collected, and you cancel or reschedule the surgery within 2 weeks, there will be a fee of 25% of the total cost.

Exceptions are made for life-threatening emergencies or medical illnesses prior to the procedure. In these instances, the rescheduling fee does not apply.

PAYMENT

Acceptable forms of payment include:

  • Cash
  • Bank Cheques
  • Visa or MasterCard

We do not offer payment plans

HEALTH INSURANCE

As a rule, cosmetic plastic surgery is considered “elective surgery” and is not covered by most health insurance funds or Medicare. Some operations that have a significant functional aspect may be considered reconstructive rather than cosmetic and may attract a small rebate. These include Rhinoplasty for deformity or nasal obstruction, and breast reduction if the weight of your breasts causes pain or interferes with normal activities. Dr Pham will advise you to contact your health fund and Medicare if this is the case.

Because Facial Plastic & Cosmetic Surgery is artistic, on occasion, revisions may be necessary. Such revisions are performed within one year of the original surgery, and although there is generally a minimum charge for the surgery, facility and anaesthesia fees still apply for such procedures. Perth Facial Plastic & Cosmetic Surgery reserves the right to determine whether a revision is appropriate and what the procedure will entail. If you have any questions regarding this policy, please ask Dr Pham.
