Rhinoplasty Procedure
Rhinoplasty operations are usually performed under general anaesthesia, with minimal scarring resulting. The specific framework for surgery is dependent on the individual and their desired results. For example, the nose can be reduced, reshaped, built up or even angled for a more youthful appearance!
After Surgery A small cast/splint is applied to the nose for the first week after surgery and most of the swelling is gone by the time the cast is removed. Within 2 weeks the bruising and swelling will be greatly reduced and is able to be hidden under makeup. Significant improvement and an 80% reduction in swelling are apparent after 6 weeks, 90% within 3 months and 95% within 6 months. The final cosmetic result is achieved after 12 months when the skin has reformed to its new framework.
Candidates for Rhinoplasty
Dr Pham will discuss your skin type, ethnic background, and age, which are important factors to be considered prior to surgery. Before your nose is altered, it is essential that you have reached full growth which is usually around fifteen to sixteen years for females and sixteen to seventeen years for males. Exceptions are made in cases where breathing is severely impaired.
In certain ethnic background (such as East Asian) or due to genetic, developmental or acquired conditions such as trauma; the nasal dorsum or profile is under developed or low. Dr Pham has significant experience in nasal augmentation to enhance or improve the nose aesthetically, by building a profile in harmony with other facial features.
A nose profile can be built using cartilage or materials from your own body or synthetic materials. Dr Pham will advise on the best methods to suit each specific situation.
