The procedure

Blepharoplasty or eyelid surgery is a common cosmetic procedure, involving the removal of excess skin and fat from the upper and/or lower eyelids. The procedure usually takes 45 – 60 minutes for upper or lower lids, and up to 90 minutes for both upper and lower lids. The procedure can be performed in surgery, or in a hospital using local or general anaesthetic. Stitches can be removed after five or seven days and the eye area is significantly healed within 10 days, during which time most patients return to work. Dr Pham ensures that all scarring is less visible, and easily camouflaged by the natural folds of the skin.

The incisions are in the upper crease for the upper lid and either below the eyelashes (subcilliary) or internal (transconjunctival) for the lower lid.

Different types of eyelid surgery

  • Double eyelid surgery (East Asian blepharoplasty)

Double eyelid surgery is a common procedure for people that come from an East Asian background with little or no upper eyelid creases. There are two methods including a suture technique, which is less invasive and a surgery technique which is more permanent.

Blepharoplasty results in a fresh appearance and a firmer eye area, improving sagging eyelids, but not altering dark circles, sagging eyebrows or fine lines and wrinkles around the eyes. Dr Pham can recommend complementary surgeries that will address all problems areas for an outstanding final result.

Other common procedures utilised in combination with Blepharoplasty are:

  • Skin resurfacing
  • Wrinkle relaxer
  • Wrinkle fillers
  • Facelifts
  • Neck lifts
  • Rhinoplasty

A non-refundable deposit of 10% or $500 is required once surgery has been scheduled. This deposit reserves the surgery date and is credited towards the balance due.

The balance of fees due is to be paid in full at the pre-operative appointment or three weeks prior to the scheduled surgery, whichever is first. Perth Facial Plastic & Cosmetic Surgery generally does not provide refunds. Once a procedure is scheduled and the fee collected, and you cancel or reschedule the surgery within 2 weeks, there will be a fee of 25% of the total cost.

HEALTH INSURANCE

As a rule, cosmetic plastic surgery is considered “elective surgery” and is not covered by most health insurance funds or Medicare. Some operations that have a significant functional aspect may be considered reconstructive rather than cosmetic and may attract a small rebate. These include Rhinoplasty for deformity or nasal obstruction, and breast reduction if the weight of your breasts causes pain or interferes with normal activities. Dr Pham will advise you to contact your health fund and Medicare if this is the case.

Because Facial Plastic & Cosmetic Surgery is artistic, on occasion, revisions may be necessary. Such revisions are performed within one year of the original surgery, and although there is generally a minimum charge for the surgery, facility and anaesthesia fees still apply for such procedures. Perth Facial Plastic & Cosmetic Surgery reserves the right to determine whether a revision is appropriate and what the procedure will entail. If you have any questions regarding this policy, please ask Dr Pham.
