Liposuction Perth

Liposuction surgery, body contouring and liposcuplture in Perth

Unfortunately, diet and exercise may not be enough to reach your ideal figure. If you’re healthy and need help improving your body’s proportions, liposuction may be the solution.

A liposuction procedure is one of the most popular operations performed by cosmetic surgeons today. If you’re considering liposuction, Perth Facial Plastic & Cosmetic Surgery provides procedures that are effective and safe with a short recovery time. Contact us today to discuss requirements.

If you’re considering liposuction surgery, you need to understand what it is.

What is liposuction?

Liposuction is cosmetic surgery which breaks up and "sucks" fat from various parts of the body, most commonly the abdomen, thighs, buttocks, neck, chin, upper and backs of the arms, calves and back.

With weight gain, fat cells increase in size rather than multiply. If you gain weight after surgery, it will not return to the suctioned area because of the fat cell removal. Fat cells in other areas, however, can still increase in size.

Liposculpture works best when skin still has enough elasticity to achieve a smooth contour following fat removal. When skin is inelastic, as in some older patients, it may not re-drape well and a skin tightening procedure such as abdominoplasty (tummy tuck) may be necessary.

The procedure

Depending on the extent of the area, we use general anaesthesia, sedation with local anaesthesia, or local anaesthesia. In healthy patients, liposculpture is a day procedure, but when removing large amounts of fat (more than 5000cc) from patients, we keep them overnight in hospital for observation and pain relief. We use a local anaesthetic in all cases; it wears off in 4-6 hours, so you will need pain medication for 24-48 hours.

A number of small incisions are made, usually in skin folds, and these are normally not detectable. Fat is removed by first inserting a small, hollow tube, called a cannula, which is connected by tubing to a vacuum pressure unit. The unwanted fat is then removed and the area sculptured to the desired contour.

You will be provided with plenty of information before making a decision to proceed with liposuction. It is an elective procedure, which means that it is a personal choice and generally not necessary for the maintenance of good health.

Liposuction recovery time

The procedure may take 1-3 hours. All patients are recommended to wear post-operative corset / pressure garments for 3-6 weeks.

Why choose us?

Our expert surgeon, Dr Pham, will discuss the benefits, risks and recovery time, re-draping of the skin and other tightening procedures. Dr Pham will also inform you of the options available, and once your goals are understood, he will recommend the appropriate procedure.

We will provide you with information regarding the surgical facility where your procedure will take place and the costs involved. Following a joint decision by you and Dr Pham to go ahead with a procedure, photographs of you will be taken. You are encouraged to seek the opinion of other surgeons if you are uncertain.

Private health insurance rebate

Liposuction is usually cosmetic in nature and therefore not covered by Medicare and Health Insurance Funds. The fee will attract GST. You will be given a quote from Dr Pham (for his fee only) and contact numbers for the hospital and anaesthetist if applicable.

In very rare cases Liposculpture can be functional. Dr Pham will inform you of this and you should contact Medicare and your health insurance fund to see what rebate to expect.

Liposuction should not be considered as a substitute for overall weight loss, nor for a healthy lifestyle, which should include an appropriate diet and enough exercise. Nor is it an effective treatment for cellulite, a condition that gives the skin an uneven, dimpled appearance. Alternative treatments may be considered in some instances to improve this problem.

For the liposuction results you’re looking for, Perth Facial Plastic & Cosmetic Surgery has the experts to help you reach your goal.

FEES AND INSURANCE

After conducting a thorough medical history, Dr Pham and his staff will offer information regarding anaesthesia, the surgical facility to be used, and the costs for the procedure. Every procedure is individual and unique to each patient. Because of this, determining your specific needs and the fees associated relies on a variety of factors, such as the complexity of the operation, where the surgery will take place and the type of anaesthetic to be administered.

YOUR QUOTE

A quote will be provided and is usually an estimate as the actual surgery may differ from the proposed treatment due to unexpected findings. Dr Pham will never compromise your health or surgical outcome to conform to previously anticipated or communicated anaesthesia and facility time. If further treatment is required (through complexity, unforeseen complications or additional procedures you request) then extra costs may apply.

TOTAL FEE

The total fee will comprise of

  • Surgeon Fee (Dr Pham) – this will be provided in the quote
  • Anaesthetist Fee – you will need to consult the Doctor / Anaesthetist involve for a quote
  • Hospital or Day Surgery Fee – you will need to contact the hospital involve for a quote

CONSULTATION FEE

The fee for an initial consultation with Dr Pham is $220. To be eligible for any Medicare rebates, you will need to have a valid referral from your general practitioner. Any follow-up consultations will incur a fee of $130.

Your first cosmetic consultation is complimentary with a Nurse Coordinator.

Fees for cosmetic plastic surgery are paid prior to surgery.

DEPOSITS

A non-refundable deposit of 10% or $500 is required once surgery has been scheduled. This deposit reserves the surgery date and is credited towards the balance due.

The balance of fees due is to be paid in full at the pre-operative appointment or three weeks prior to the scheduled surgery, whichever is first. Perth Facial Plastic & Cosmetic Surgery generally does not provide refunds. Once a procedure is scheduled and the fee collected, and you cancel or reschedule the surgery within 2 weeks, there will be a fee of 25% of the total cost.

Exceptions are made for life-threatening emergencies or medical illnesses prior to the procedure. In these instances, the rescheduling fee does not apply.

PAYMENT

Acceptable forms of payment include:

  • Cash
  • Bank Cheques
  • Visa or MasterCard

We do not offer payment plans

HEALTH INSURANCE

As a rule, cosmetic plastic surgery is considered “elective surgery” and is not covered by most health insurance funds or Medicare. Some operations that have a significant functional aspect may be considered reconstructive rather than cosmetic and may attract a small rebate. These include Rhinoplasty for deformity or nasal obstruction, and breast reduction if the weight of your breasts causes pain or interferes with normal activities. Dr Pham will advise you to contact your health fund and Medicare if this is the case.

Because Facial Plastic & Cosmetic Surgery is artistic, on occasion, revisions may be necessary. Such revisions are performed within one year of the original surgery, and although there is generally a minimum charge for the surgery, facility and anaesthesia fees still apply for such procedures. Perth Facial Plastic & Cosmetic Surgery reserves the right to determine whether a revision is appropriate and what the procedure will entail. If you have any questions regarding this policy, please ask Dr Pham.
